Our Computer Support Service History in IT
Masley & Associates was born out of the genius of our founder and principle administrator Greg Masley. Our outfit operates and grows off of his vast knowledge and experience in the field of IT Consultancy, Services, and Maintenance. His individual mastery and professional experiences benefit and enrich the whole team here at Masley Associates. Here is an overview of Greg and Masley & Associates shared history in Network Administration, Systems Analysis, and IT Consultancy with top clients and employers here in California:
1993-1994
Masley & Associates was formed here in Orange County, CA in the year 1994, and continues to provide top notch Network and IT Consultancy services to individuals and businesses all over the region. While running his independent IT services, Greg has been gathering valuable industry exposure and experience on the side all along.
He started his career with Computer Support Network based in Huntington Beach between 1993 and 1994, where he assumed the role of General Manager, and was responsible for hardware and software installations, systems configurations, and repair and maintenance on Microsoft and Novell networks, computers, and devices. His core responsibilities included providing technical and cost considerations for service proposals, and sourcing the hardware and software vendors for the company as well. Greg also got a jump start on his leadership and management skills looking after a large team of technicians from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds while at Computer Support Network. He managed daily company operations and client accounts, and built a reputation of providing consistent customer satisfaction and systems performance for the IT firm.
After a year, Greg moved on to join Mallinckrodt Medical at its Irvine office, and stayed there till 1999 as a Network Administrator. While there, he operated as the sole on site IT support technician for a network with 400 odd users. This entailed the management of all aspects of network implementation – including planning, designing, testing, documentation, deployment, and maintenance of Novell and Windows based network systems. He was also responsible for developing training and support plans for the entire 400 user network. His biggest achievement however, was to lead the effort in migrating the Novell based Microsoft and Lotus Notes servers to upgraded Windows NT based Exchange Servers. This involved the development and implementation of plans to provide remote access to e-mail and database servers via Windows NT RAS. Later, he also administered Back Office, Exchange, RAS, AS400s, Lotus Notes, MAPICS, JD Edwards, Rhumba, and Reflections on this platform.
1999-2001
In 1999, Greg decided to branch out and utilize his extensive experience to provide Network and IT Consultancy services to Network Solutions in Tustin, California. Here, he assumed the role of Lead Network Engineer, and was entrusted with providing primary support for Novell and Microsoft networks at Fortune 500 clients in the Orange County area. His responsibilities included providing technical support for workstations and networks, and designing, configuring, and installing hardware, software, and operating systems. While at Network Solutions, Greg took his industry pedigree to an entirely different level by taking charge of the installation and maintenance of entire computer networks for major Southern California and Colorado corporations. This included such names as JNIC Missile Defense Agency based at the Schreiver Air Force Base that comes under the Department of Defense, Capitol Records, Unihealth Insurance, Fuji Bank, Farmers Insurance, Classic Homes, St. Joseph’s Hospital, and Anaheim Memorial Medical Center.
During this period, Greg achieved such professional feats like performing a nationwide wireless network upgrade for The Sports Authority and Gart Sports on their multi-tier networks containing over a thousand users. He also helped St. Joseph’s Hospital migrate from Novell and Lotus Notes to Windows 2000 Server with Exchange 2000, on a multi site network with over 2000 users. Greg successfully carried out a similar project for the Anaheim Memorial Hospital, helping them move from Windows 98, NT Server, and Exchange 5.5, to Windows XP, 2000 Server, and Exchange 2000, again on a multi site network – this one having more than 4000 users. For Classic Homes, Greg administered, supported, and maintained a Citrix network environment. This included building new Citrix servers and their load balancing. The highlight however, was his work with JNIC, where he was responsible for establishing network security measures that were necessary for its defense agency accreditation.
While servicing all these big names during his time with Network Solutions, Greg acquired a wealth of knowledge and experience in highly diverse domains of Systems and Network Management. He designed and documented data and voice networks from scratch, trained customers and managers on system capabilities and usage, and performed Systems Administration on Windows Servers and Client software for both Local and Wide Area Networks. To his credit, Greg also configured and tested network platforms under some extreme time constraints, and still delivered successful customer acceptance for the requisite test bed network. A highly regarded and seasoned professional by then, Greg was also recommending and implementing network wide security management solutions – including firewall policies and configurations, router access lists, and agent based network monitoring.
2001-Present
In 2001, Greg left Network Solutions to offer his expertise to a number of reputed IT firms as a Senior Computer Administrator and Network Consultant. Till 2003 he worked as a Lead Network Engineer for Network Planet in Beverly Hills, providing primary support for Novell Networks at Fortune 500 law firms based in Los Angeles. In 2005, he took up a similar role at St. Joseph Hospital, supporting and leading a Novell Network migration effort for a 500 user multi site network.
2008 saw Greg setting up 2G WLAN networks for Peterson Air force Base in Colorado and Luke Air force Base in Arizona. This, while working with Harris and General Dynamics. Greg designed as well as implemented these wireless LANs, while working with Aruba Controllers, Aruba Access Points, RADIUS and TACACS Servers. He used the Motorola LAN Planner for designing these networks.
Later that year, he joined as the IT Manager for Bert Howe & Associates in Anaheim, then moved to Microtek as a Network Consultant in 2010, took up a similar role for EdgeMac the following year, before finally focusing all his energies on the operations of Masley & Associates. During this period, Greg gained more experience in reconfiguring, migrating, and supporting networks running on Windows 2003 and Windows 2008 Servers, Exchange Servers, SharePoint Servers, SQL Servers, and Windows XP & Windows 7 Professional editions.
